Montgomery County (Alabama)

The Montgomery County is a county located in the U.S. state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Montgomery.

Geography

The County is located in the central southeastern part of Alabama and has an area of ​​2071 square kilometers, of which 26 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Elmore County, Macon County, Bullock County, Pike County, Crenshaw County, Lowndes County and Autauga County.

History

Montgomery County was formed on December 6, 1816 the Mississippi Territory. It was named after Major Lemuel P. Montgomery of Virginia, who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.
