Montgomery County (Missouri)

The Montgomery County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 12,236 inhabitants and a population density of 8.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Montgomery City.

Geography

The County is located in the northeastern central Missouri on the left bank of the Missouri River and is in the east about 50 miles from the U.S. state of Illinois and the Mississippi River. It has an area of 1399 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers is water area. At the Montgomery County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Montgomery County was formed on December 14, 1818 from parts of St. Charles County. It was named after Richard Montgomery (1736-1775), who was killed in the American War of Independence during the attack on the Canadian city of Quebec.
