Montgomery County (Tennessee)
Montgomery County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Clarksville.
Geography
The County is located in northwest Tennessee, bordered to the north Kentucky and has an area of 1409 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Christian County (Kentucky), Todd County (Kentucky), Robertson County, Cheatham County, Dickson County, Houston County and Stewart County.
The County is located in a karst landscape. In Dunbar State Park is the Dunbar Cave, a much visited karst cave.

History
Montgomery County was formed on 9 April 1796 Country of Tennessee territory. It was named after John Montgomery, a settler, Colonel in the Revolutionary War and leader of the Nickajack expedition against the Creek Indians.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Montgomery County 134 768 people in 48 330 households and 35 957 families. The population density was 96 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 73.17 percent White, 19.18 percent Black or African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 1.82 percent Asian, 0.21 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 2.18 percent from other races groups; 2.91 percent were descended from two or more races. 5.16 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 48 330 households out of which 40.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.7 percent were married couples living together, 12.2 percent were single mothers and 25.6 percent were non-families. 20.2 percent of all households and 5.5 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average household size was 3.11 people.
28.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 12.3 percent between 18 to 24, 34.3 percent between 25 and 44, 17.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 7.8 percent were older than 65, the average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 101.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there 98.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 38,981, and the median income for a family was $ 43,023. Males have a median income of $ 30,696, women $ 22,581. The per capita income was $ 17,265. 7.9 percent of families and 10.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
