Montgomery Township is a township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. In the 2000 census, a total population of 17,481 was registered.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 84.5 km ², and no water surfaces are miteinberechnet.

History

Montgomery Township was founded in 1702 by Dutch and English settlers. In the military movements of the Revolutionary war, General Washington passed through the area around this city. This happened in the first week of December of 1776.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there are 17,481 people, 5,803 households, and 4,781 families residing in the community. The population density is 206.9 inhabitants per km ². 84.55 % of the population are White, 2.07% African American, 0.09 % Native American, 11.50 % Asian, 0.01 % Pacific Islander, 0.46 % from other races, and 1.32% mixed race. 2.21% are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 5,803 households 51.1 % have children under 18 years. 75.5 % are married couples living together, 5.3% are single mothers, 17.6 % are non-families, 14.2% consist of all households and 3.5% in people older than 65, the average household size is 2, 99, the average family size is 3.33.

32.9 % of the population are under the age of 18, 3.9 % from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 24.4% between 45 and 64, 6.8% older than 65 is the average age 37 years. The ratio of women to men is 100:97,4, for people older than 18 years, the ratio 100:93,8.

The median household income is $ 118,850, and the median income for a family $ 129,150. Males have a median income of $ 86,687, women $ 55,441.
