Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society ( MNRAS ) is published in the UK journal of astronomy and astrophysics.

The first issue was published on February 9, 1827 as Monthly Notices of the Astronomical Society of London. MNRAS published continuously since then and one of the world's oldest still appearing astronomical journals. It got its present name from the second band after the Astronomical Society of London was the become the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS). Until 1961 the RAS Monthly Notices issued themselves, since they appear from the publisher Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the RAS.

With 36 issues a year, the present publication is no longer a monthly basis. MNRAS publishes regular articles without length limitation and faster published ' Letters ' of a maximum of 5 pages. This appeared earlier on pink paper in the print edition, today only electronically with a summary in the print edition.

MNRAS heard today how Astrophysical Journal, Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Astronomical Journal of the leading journals in astronomy.
