Montmarlon

Montmarlon is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Montmarlon is located on 641 m above sea level. M., about 15 km north of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a vast plateau on the western edge of the Forêt de la Joux, in the hollow of the Ruisseau des Joncs.

The area of 3.28 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the formerly swampy depression that is drained by the Ruisseau des Joncs north to Lizon Supérieur. With a narrow strip, the municipality's area extends eastward across a 50 m high terrain level in the large forest area of the Forêt de la Joux, in the 741 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Montmarlon is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Montmarlon are Lemuy in the north, the south and Supt Andelot -en- Montagne in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Montmarlon formed its own rule, which was dependent on Montmahou. In 1639, the castle and the town were looted and burned by the passing troops of Duke Bernhard of Saxe- Weimar. Together with the Franche -Comté Montmarlon came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 30 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Montmarlon one of the smallest towns in the Jura. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range of approximately 30 to 35 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Montmarlon was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Andelot -en- Montagne to Lemuy.
