Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis)

Montreuil is a commune with 103 068 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- Saint- Denis, Ile- de -France region. It belongs to Arrondissement Bobigny and is the capital of three cantons. After Villeurbanne Montreuil is the most populous cities in France those who are not a department prefecture or sub-prefecture of an arrondissement.

Geography

The city is located in the east of Paris agglomeration five miles from Notre Dame.

History

The city was home to among the kings Louis XIV and Louis XV. the Murs à pêches. Later, the Lumière Brothers and Georges Méliès had their workshops in the old town of Montreuil.

Today Montreuil is divided into five districts ( district ):

Montreuil is a working-class and immigrant community since the late 19th century.
