Mont Richer VD

Mont Richer is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The former German name Roger Berg is no longer used today.

Geography

Mont Richer is on 752 m above sea level. Level, 14 km north-west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The scattered village extends on a small hill at the eastern foot of Mont Tendre, with splendid views over the plains of the western Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​25.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Jura plateau and the Jura Vaudois. The smaller eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the foot of the Jura plateau above sea level at an altitude of around 680 m. M. lies. Population

With 857 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Mont Richer is one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 92.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.6 % and 1.6 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Mont Richer amounted in 1900 to 727 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1970 to 499 people, a significant population increase was observed again.

Economy

Mont Richer was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, agriculture on the foot of the Jura plateau as well as the livestock and dairy farming in the higher elevations have an important role in the economic structure of the population. The forestry plays an important role. In addition, there are several gravel pits. More jobs are in small businesses and in the service provided. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the surrounding larger villages and towns along Lake Geneva.

Mont Richer has since the late 1980s on a holiday center. It is the site of an institute for disabled people. At the foot of the Jura plateau near the Veyron is the airfield of the West Swiss Gliding Centre of Mont Richer.

Traffic

The community is located off of larger thoroughfares on a connecting road from L' Isle along the foot of the Jura Bière. On September 12, 1896, the narrow gauge railway line from L' Isle to Apple's Chemin de fer Bière -Apples- Morges was put into operation. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1049 under the name Mons Richarius. Later, the names Monte Richerii ( 1177 ) published, Monrichie ( 1412 ), and the current place name has existed since 1301. A descendant of the lords of Grandson founded in 1049 on the hill above the modern town a castle. Below this castle which gave rise to the town of Mont Richer. In 1770 almost the entire historic town fell victim to a conflagration. The only three houses that were not affected by this catastrophic fire, burned in 1828 along with numerous reconstructed buildings down again. From an ancient historical town, which had a dimension of 180 * 130 m, thus remained nothing more. The stones of the former city walls and castle were used after 1828 for the reconstruction of the village.

Attractions

Mont Richer has the character of a farming village today. Today's Protestant parish church served before the fire as a chapel. The bell tower with a pointed hood once part of the castle fortifications. In the center show the peasants and town houses a single image from the first half of the 19th century. From the former castle only a few ruins remain.
