According to the census in 2000 lived in the statistics area Montrose 7,018 people; were counted 2,924 households and 1,850 families. The population density was 797 inhabitants per km ². There 3,081 residential units were recorded. The racial the population was composed of 46.5 % White, 50.0 % African American, 0.4 % Native American, 1.0 % Asian and 0.9 % from other ethnic groups; 1.3 % stated that the lineage of several ethnicities. 1.6 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
