2000/ 01 re- erected lookout on the Monument Mountain

The Monument Mountain is a 293.4 meter high mountain in Saxony. The mountain is located in United Radisch in Upper Lusatia.

History

1801 was on the top of a monument in memory of Johann Carl Adolf Nostic ( 1743-1800 ), since 1774, first lieutenant in the Saxon army, from 1786 captain and major from 1793, built. Therefore, the mountain first carried the designation Nostizhöhe. After the memory went back to Nostic, in the designation of Monument Mountain naturalized, which bears the height today.

When station No. 2 Nostizhöhe of Monument Mountain was a station first order of royal Saxon triangulation in the 1860s. For this reason, a survey column was erected on the summit.

1994 Nostiz Monument of the community has been restored and built from 2000 to 2001 on the summit, a 25 meter high observation tower and a restaurant.

Geology

The Monument Mountain is part of the ridge of the Hohendubrau, which north of Great Radisch for about 4 km extends to the southern edge of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond area. To the north of this ridge drops off steeply, while he runs flat to the south. The mountain -building rock is so called Dubrau quartzite, a gray and fine-grained quartzite, which builds on old greywacke from the Precambrian. Chance occur reddish sandstones, conglomeratic quartzites and quartzitic slate.
