Monza Cathedral

The Duomo of Monza after St. John the Baptist, and was commissioned by the Bavarian -born Queen Theodolinda commissioned in the early 7th century. The basilica is one of the oldest churches in Lombardy.

Architectural History

Which belongs to the dowry of Queen Iron Crown is now in the Cathedral Museum. As Theodolinda 627 died, she was buried in the Basilica, and the place was equal to a place of worship.

The church was rebuilt in 1300 after the saint of the Visconti and received in the course of the following centuries its present face with gothic and modern elements.

The tower was built in 1592-1606 and is 75 m high. It contains an eight polyphonic ringing in the Schlagtonfolge a0 - h0 - ck1 -d1 - e1- fis1 - gk1 -a1. The bells poured Bartolomeo Bozzio in the year in 1741.

Equipment

The great cathedral organ was built by the organ builder Metzler ( Switzerland ) built in 2002, in an existing organ case. The instrument has 29 stops on two manuals and pedal.
