MoonEdit

MoonEdit is a program that allows collaborative writing. It is supported by the operating systems Linux, Windows and FreeBSD. Originally called Moon - Edit Multi - Editoro and was written by Tom Dobrowolski.

MoonEdit is free for non-commercial use, it is currently neither free software nor open source.

The user of MoonEdit may first connect to a server, then open a page of text and edit it now as in a conventional program for word processing. Depending on the number of participants in a session, several insertion points are displayed on the text box. A column on the right shows all the side connected users. Entered text and changes the cursor positions are visible to all participants in real time. Each participant may change at any time and make changes to any part of the text.

User mapping

The maximum number of users for an editing session in MoonEdit is currently 14 When you open a page, the user selects a pastel color from a palette of 14 colors. This color is auffolgend the background for all text he enters, as well as for his user name in the right column. The unambiguous assignment of each section of text is therefore possible.

Page history

It is not necessary in MoonEdit to secure written text. MoonEdit records the course of the processing of a page. Each entry - typos included - is saved immediately. With F7, the user can call up a progress bar at the top of the page, the right end he may drag with your mouse from the far left (initial, blank page ) to extreme right (current state of processing ) - similar in many programs for playing digital Video files. The F6 and F8 keys allow it to gradually go in the page history backwards or forwards, so that can comprehend the complete input sequence a MoonEdit page in detail afterwards.

Noise function

If you press a button in MoonEdit so produced for all connected parties hear the noise from typing on a typewriter key. So you will also draw attention to edits that are outside of the visible editing window. The noise function is currently only available in the version of the program for Windows.
