Moore County (North Carolina)
Moore County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Carthage.
The County is located just south of the geographic center of North Carolina, is in the south about 40 miles from South Carolina away and has an area of 1828 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Chatham County, Lee County, Harnett County, Cumberland County, Hoke County, Richmond County, Montgomery County and Randolph County.
Moore County is divided into 10 numbered townships: 1 (Carthage ), 2 ( Bensalem ), 3 ( Sheffield ), 4 ( Knight ), 5 ( Deep River ), 6 ( Greenwood ), 7 ( McNeill ), 8 ( Sand Hill ), 9 ( mineral Springs ) and 10 ( Little River ).
Moore County was formed in 1784 from parts of Cumberland County. It was named after Captain Alfred Moore, a judge of the Supreme Court of the United States ( Supreme Court) and officer in the American Revolutionary War.
According to the census in 2000 lived in Moore County 74 769 people in 30,713 households and 21,959 families. The population density was 41 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 80.25 percent White, 15.50 percent Black or African American, 0.68 percent Native American, 0.44 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 2.20 percent from other races groups; 0.88 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.99 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 30,713 households out of which 26.7 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.1 percent were married couples living together, 10.2 percent were single mothers and 28.5 percent were non-families. 24.9 percent of all households and 11.3 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.81 persons.
22.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 6.6 percent 18 to 24 years 25.8 percent between 25 and 44, 23.8 percent between 45 and 64, and 21.8 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 42 years. In all females there were 93.0 males. In all women aged 18 and over, 89.8 males.
The median income for a household was 41,240 U.S. dollars and the median income for a family was $ 48,492. Males had a median income of $ 31,260 versus $ 23,526 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,377. 11.4 percent of the population and 8.0 percent of families are below the poverty line. 16.6 percent of them are children and adolescents under age 18 and 10.1 percent are 65 years or older.
