Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The Moorfields Eye Hospital is a specialist in diseases of the eye clinic in London. She is a Nachfolgeinstituiton the London Dispensary for curing Diseases of the Eye and Ear, which was founded in 1805 and the first of its kind in the UK was. In addition to the treatment of eye diseases, the clinic explored in collaboration with the University College London and this is coming from worldwide.

History

John Cunningham Saunders, an English ophthalmologist, proposed in October 1804 to open a clinic for eye and throat medicine. This proposal met with general approval, both in the medical profession and the general public. The London Dispensary for curing Diseases of the Eye and Ear was opened on 25 March of the following year at Charterhouse square. Saunders and John Richard Farre were the attending physicians. Every man had access to treatment, as well eye doctors were trained. 1805 600 patients were treated in 1810 nearly three thousand, and the numbers continued to rise: in 1850 the clinic had 9,437 patients in treatment. 1808 otology had disappeared and been renamed the clinic in London Infirmary for curing Diseases of the Eye. Various eye clinics have emerged worldwide after the model of London. 1823 pulled the clinic into a site next to the old building of the church of St Mary Moorfields building at Blomfield Street northeast of Finsbury Circus. Was the name London Ophthalmic Infirmary At the front of the three story building.

After 1837 Queen Victoria became patron of the hospital, was again changed its name to the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital.

1899, the building was demolished and the clinic moved into a building at the City Road. During the Second World War the building was so badly damaged that a new building be considered, but ultimately was not realized and instead the old building was repaired. 1946, united with the Westminster Ophthalmic Hospital and the Central Eye Hospital. With the establishment of the National Health Service, the clinic was not a donor-supported institution more and was under the administration of the Teaching Hospitals Regional Board.
