Moorgate station

Moorgate ( Moorgate Street until 1924 ) is a railway station on the same road in the City of London, north of London Wall. It is the terminus of the Northern City Line and a 2009 disused branch line of Thameslink. Both routes are or were served by trains of the company First Capital Connect. Moorgate is also a metro station, stop at the London Underground trains on the Circle Line, Hammersmith & City Line and Metropolitan Line. In the year 2011 there were 21.23 million subway passengers the located in the Travelcard Zone 1 station, added 6.737 million passengers by rail.

Upper part of

The platforms of the Circle Line, Hammersmith & City Line, Metropolitan Line and Thameslink are situated just below the surface. The opening of the station on December 23, 1865, the Metropolitan Railway ( predecessor company of the Metropolitan Line). In 1868 we doubled on the line between Moorgate and King's Cross ( the City Widened Lines so-called ) the number of tracks. In the 1960s, it extended the platforms.

As part of the Thameslink 2000 project of the railway traffic was stopped on the Thameslink branch line to Moorgate station in March 2009. This made it possible to extend the platform in Farringdon.

Lower part

The City and South London Railway (C & SLR) opened its located in a deep tunnel tube station on 25 February 1900, when the northern terminus of the line to Stockwell. On November 17, 1901 route was extended northward to Angel. The original station building of the C & SLR has been preserved in the overlying offices was located the headquarters of the company. Directly above the tunnel of the Northern Line are the tracks 9 and 10 of the Northern City Line. These were taken on February 14, 1904 by the Great Northern & City Railway ( GN & CR) in operation, connecting the City of London Finsbury Park. The GN & CR was hoped at the outset that the quick and suburban trains of the Great Northern Railway (GNR ) would operate on this route. But the GNR did not accept the offer and the line had to be downgraded to a short branch line.

From 1934 to 1975, the Northern City Line, a branch line of the Northern Line. On August 16, 1976, the former state railway company British Rail took over the operation on the Northern City Line. Since then, the trains Finsbury Park addition to the northern suburbs.

Moorgate train crash

The Moorgate station through a serious accident on 28 February 1975, shortly before the handover to British Rail became known. 43 people were killed and 74 others were injured. It was the worst train accident in the history of the London Underground.
