Moorreesburg is a town in the municipality of Swartland, West Coast District, Western Cape Province in South Africa, on the road N7, 100 kilometers north of Cape Town on 152 meters altitude above the sea level. 2011, the city had 12,877 inhabitants.

Main source of income for the city is the cultivation of grain. The Moorreesburg Cooperative produces around 140,000 tonnes of wheat per year to about 380 farms. The city is located in the winter rainfall region, that is, the average annual precipitation of 364 mm falls mainly during the months of April to October.

History

Moorreesburg was named after Reverend HA Moorrees. The city was founded in 1890 as a church in the area of ​​farm Hooikraal. Municipal law received the settlement in 1898.
