Moosach (Isar)

BW

The Moosach is a (originally ) about 50 km long left tributary of the Isar River, which flows between Freising and Moosburg. However, it must also be counted as a right tributary of the Amper, since the eliminated shortly before Isarmündung Mühlbach leads nearly 30 percent of the water at Moosburg in the Amper. The mean annual runoff is in Freising almost 3 m³ / s Places on their ( original ) run are Munich, Oberschleißheim Unterschleißheim, Eching, Neufahrn, Freising and Marzling.

Source and course to Freising

The original source of the Moosach is located in Munich's Moosach and her old course is now named Feldmochinger Mühlbach. This opens today in Munich- Feldmoching in the Würm canal, which supplies together with the Isar- Garching channel, the channels in the castle park Oberschleißheim with water ( North Munich channel system ). There is also the new origin of the Moosach which is initially discharged here as Berglbach. This crosses Oberschleißheim in the East, then turns west and passes under the railway line between Munich and Landshut. In the north of Unterschleißheim he passes under the A92 At least here the waters called again Moosach. This runs parallel to the A92 before she turns on the amount Neufahrn north and Massenhausen crosses. Until Freising Moosach then flows through the Freising moss.

Development in the urban area of Freising

In Freising Moosach proceeds in several arms. Coming from the west branches below Weihenstephan out the Stadtmoosach from that crosses the north of the Cathedral Hill as only the old town. Until around 1880, this arm was open by the Upper Main Street, after which it was covered over there and there was a long-drawn court. For several years, there is debate about whether this coverage is to be reversed. On the remaining piece of the arm is mostly channeled.

The arm south of the Cathedral Hill is divided into Wörthmoosach and the main arm. From the latter, then branches off the Schleifermoosach. The Wörthmoosach is already true at the level of the station road back to the main arm. There is also the Moor Fountain and Altöttinger chapel. On the eastern edge of the Stadtmoosach flows back into the main branch, while the Schleifermoosach only in the Isar river at the height Marzling encounters this.

In the western area the individual arms are connected by several weirs and short channels. So there are, among others, Charles host crossing a direct derivation of the Stadtmoosach in the Schleifermoosach to protect the old town before the floods of Wippenhauser and Thalhauser trench. In addition, the connections to the water level control of the numerous Freising mills served.

Mouth

The last few miles of the river runs, partially separated only by a bike path by the river Isar, the river Isar. Shortly before the mouth of the river at Oberhummel branches on again. The main arm opens directly at the bridge between Oberhummel and Gaden in the Isar ( 48.42146911.88159 ⊙ ), while the remaining water continues to flow as Mühlbach to Moosburg. During the Mühlbach flows even there in the Amper, which ran out in the urban area grinder Bach again flows to the river Isar.
