Geographical Location

Moss creek lies in the planning region Upper Palatinate North in Upper Palatinate Forest and is approximately 12 km from the Czech border. The highest point in the municipality is the 771 m high iceberg near the village Rückersrieth.

History

The 1147 first mentioned market moss creek was long for Rent Office Amberg and the district court Treswitz of the Electorate of Bavaria. Moos Bach had market rights with important self- rights. 1809 the competent district court was moved to Vohenstrauß.

Incorporations

In 1939 a part of the formerly independent municipality Netherlands was incorporated. On January 1, 1971, added Gröbenstädt. Burgtreswitz followed on 1 April 1971. In 1972, the territory of the commune moss creek enlarged nor Tröbes and parts of the territory of the dissolved municipality Heumaden on 1 January and Etzgersrieth and parts of the territory of the dissolved municipality Burkhardsrieth on July 1. Effective 1 August 2013 moss creek were slammed some parcels of the previously unincorporated area Michlbach that mean a growth in area of about 35 hectares. This additional area is undeveloped and uninhabited.

Coat of arms

Blazon: Shared and split up; Top in black a red crowned, red reinforced golden lion and the Bavarian lozenges; below in silver growing out of blue waves a bouquet of green leaves with three black moss piston.

The coat of arms has been known since 1543.

Attractions

  • Burgtreswitz Castle, now owned by the municipality
  • The parish church of St. Peter and Paul is the successor of 1848 destroyed by fire, built from 1734 to 1738 parish church. It was built from 1850 onwards, the shell was completed in 1853. On August 30, 1859 consecrated bishop Ignatius of Senestrey the new church, which was awarded in 1861 its clock tower. The former equipment was removed in the mid-20th century.
  • On the northern outskirts of moss creek is the built in 1747-1769 Sanctuary Wies. The statue of the scourged Savior has the same statue from the Wies Church as a model.
