Moosham Castle

Moosham Castle belongs to the municipality Unterberg im Lungau, Salzburg.

First mentioned in 1191, it falls in 1285 to the archbishops of Salzburg. In the 14th century it became the seat of the provincial judge or nurse. Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach can be extended to 1577 the medieval castle.

1790 Pfleggericht Moosham Archbishop Colloredo was resolved last nurse was Johann Wenzel von Helmreich to Brunfeld, after the castle fell more and more.

1886 bought Johann Nepomuk Graf Wilczek the plant. Previously, he had already put substantial funds from 1874 into the castle Kreuzenstein. The Moosham castle is still owned by the family. It is open to the public and offers a rich art collection, which was assembled by the lords of the castle. It includes findings of the Romans from this region as well as a number of well-preserved records and instruments of torture from the time of the witch trials.

The pianist Cecil Taylor in 1976 accepted here at a festival his album Air Above Mountains ( Buildings Within) on.

The Austrian fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin from 2007 after the eponymous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm was, inter alia, in 2005 /06 produced in Moosham Castle for the film series fairytale beads.
