Right next door is the start and runway of Nauru International Airport. The lake is located in the moqua Cave, a depression in the limestone soil of the central plateau, which is lower than the ground water of the higher central plateau, so that the groundwater flows into the cavity and forms a small lake. There is no connection to Buada Lagoon, which is located about 700 meters north in Buada.

The lake contains freshwater and is a famous fountain in Nauru. However, there are still people that do not guarantee the barrier. Water was removed a few years ago for flushing toilets the government building of the moqua well.
