Morano Calabro

Morano Calabro is a town in the province of Cosenza in Calabria with 4606 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Morano Calabro is located about 51 km north of Cosenza in the upper reaches of the river Coscile on a hill. The neighboring municipalities are Castrovillari, Mormanno, Rotonda (PZ ), San Basile, Saracen and Viggianello (PZ ).

Attractions

The town is overlooked by the ruins of a castle. This castle was built in the Norman period and re- created in the 16th century.

The San Bernadino church dates from the 15th century and is part of a convent. The monastery was founded in 1452. Inside are numerous works of art are like a winged altar from the 15th century.

The Magdalen Church ( Collegiate della Maddalena ) comes from the Byzantine era. The church was built in the 16th century in Baroque style and rebuilt in the late 18th and early 19th century. Inside painting by Antonio SARNELLI and Francesco Lopez can be seen.

The Museo di Storia dell ' Agricoltura e della Pastorizia shows a collection of agriculture around Morano Calabro.
