Morbach

Morbach is a union -free municipality in the district Bernkastel -Wittlich in Rhineland- Palatinate. The municipality is a nationally recognized health resort and recognized as basic center according to state planning.

Geography

Morbach is at 430-770 m altitude in the hilly landscape of the Hunsrück region in the immediate vicinity of the district of Birkenfeld.

Nearest regional center is the town of Bernkastel- Kues.

History

Until the local Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform of 1969, the Hunsrückort belonged to the district of Bernkastel with its county town of Bernkastel- Kues. Today's church was established on December 31, 1974 by recharge from the municipality of Morbach and 18 previously independent municipalities.

In the area of the district Wenigerath was until 1995 the ammunition depot Wenigerath the U.S. Air Force.

On 25 May 2009 Morbach received the loaned by the federal government entitled " City of Diversity".

Policy

The local council in Morbach consists of 28 volunteer council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the full-time mayor as chairman.

Energy Park

The municipality of Morbach in the Hunsrück region is the site of Morbach Energy Landscape with fourteen wind turbines, a large photovoltaic system, a biogas plant and a wood pellet plant. The lease in Energy Park brings the community a 280,000 euro per year. Since March 2011, an investment in the energy landscape Morbach additionally in operation, is to be tested in real conditions, such as excess electricity can be stored as wind gas.

Traffic

Morbach is in the Transport Association Region Trier. Bus number 300 of the Rhein- Mosel- transport company connects the village every two hours with Wittlich Hbf on the Mosel route Trier -Koblenz. Bus number 343 of the bus and coach transport Rhein-Nahe provides weekdays connects with the Idar-Oberstein station on the Nahe Valley Railway Saarbrücken- Mainz.

By Morbach extend the federal highways 269 and 327 and the Hunsrück cross train Langenlonsheim -Hermes wedge, which is currently broke, but because of the connections to the Frankfurt -Hahn airport to be reactivated from Morbach to Bingen.

Morbach is the end stage of a long-distance route Saar -Hunsrück -Steig.

Particularly worth seeing is the railway viaduct in the district Hoxel, which is among the highest single-storey stone railway bridges in Germany.
