Mordecai

Mordechai (Hebrew מרדכי also Mordecai ) is one of the central Biblical figures in the book of Esther.

He was a Jew, the son of Jair, and belonged to the tribe of Benjamin. Mordechai lived in the Persian diaspora in Susa. He was careful with other the gate of the royal palace and had thwarted an assassination attempt on the king. Mordechai was cousin and adoptive father of both esters, the Persian king Ahasuerus ( historically: Xerxes ) had chosen for his wife and queen.

Later appointed king Ahasuerus Haman officials to the highest government official of the empire, had to kneel before all the royal servants. As a Jew, Mordecai refused to kneel. Haman was about not only angry, but also intended to murder all Jews in the kingdom, and to bring their property to themselves. The day for certain Haman with lots (Hebrew Pur ), whence the name of the Jewish festival of Purim derives tags. Esters revealed the plans of Haman and their own Jewish identity to the king, after Haman was executed in Mordecai and became one of the most respected men in the court of the king, to which all Jews were proud.
