Morgan C. Hamilton

Morgan Calvin Hamilton ( * February 25, 1809 in Huntsville, Alabama, † November 21, 1893 in San Diego, California ) was an American politician ( Republican), who represented the state of Texas in the U.S. Senate.

After schooling Morgan Hamilton operated initially in the commercial sector in the city Elyton. In 1837 he settled in the Republic of Texas, where he opened a shop in Austin. Between 1839 and 1845 he was secretary in the Ministry of War of the Republic, where he served as interim basis War and Navy Minister of Texas from December 1844 to March 1845.

It was not until around 20 years later, Hamilton continued his political career. After he had held in 1867 the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury in the Ministry of Finance of the State of Texas, he took the following year as a delegate part in the Constitutional Convention. On February 22, 1870, he was then elected to the U.S. Senate, where he held the previously vacant since 1861 the seat of the Class 2 on 31 March of the same year. After immediately successful reelection Hamilton remained until March 3, 1877 in the Senate.

After he retired from public life, went to live in Brooklyn and traveled a lot. Then on one of his trips to San Diego he died in November 1893. His younger brother Andrew was 1865-1866 Governor of Texas.
