Morgan County (Indiana)

Morgan County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Martinsville.

Geography

The County is located just southwest of the geographic center of Indiana and has an area of 1060 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hendricks County, Marion County, Johnson County, Brown County, Monroe County, Owen County and Putnam County.

History

Morgan County was formed on 31 December 1821 as original county of free territory. It was named for Daniel Morgan, a general in the American Revolutionary War.

Historical buildings

In 1950, the now historic Mill Street Bridge was built. Another historic bridge, the White Lick Creek Bridge was built in 1935. It was in 1995 replaced by a new one.

In Martinsville, the historic Martinsville Sanitarium is located. The building is located at 239 West Harrison Street.
