Morgan County (Kentucky)

Morgan County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is West Liberty. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Kentucky, is in the east about 45 miles from West Virginia, located in the north about 60 miles from Ohio and has an area of 994 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rowan County, Elliott County, Lawrence County, Johnson County, Magoffin County, Wolfe County and Menifee County.

History

Morgan County was formed on December 7, 1822 from parts of Bath County and Floyd County. It was named a general in the American Revolutionary War by Daniel Morgan.

According to the census of 2000, there were 13,948 people in Morgan County. Of these, 1,843 people lived in collective centers, the other residents living in 4,752 households and 3,568 families.
