Morgan County (Kentucky)
Morgan County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is West Liberty. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Kentucky, is in the east about 45 miles from West Virginia, located in the north about 60 miles from Ohio and has an area of 994 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rowan County, Elliott County, Lawrence County, Johnson County, Magoffin County, Wolfe County and Menifee County.
History
Morgan County was formed on December 7, 1822 from parts of Bath County and Floyd County. It was named a general in the American Revolutionary War by Daniel Morgan.

According to the census of 2000, there were 13,948 people in Morgan County. Of these, 1,843 people lived in collective centers, the other residents living in 4,752 households and 3,568 families. The population density was 14 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 94.59 percent White, 4.38 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.16 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.06 percent from other races groups; 0.65 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,752 households out of which 34.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers, 24.9 percent were non-families, 22.6 percent of all households and 10.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.97.
Based on the county the population was spread from 22.4 percent population under 18 years, 10.6 percent between 18 and 24 years, 32.9 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 years and 11.8 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 123.3 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were statistically 128.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 21,869, and the median income for a family was $ 26,135. Males had a median income of $ 23,966, women $ 18,463. The per capita income was $ 12,657. 27.2 percent of the population and 23.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 33.9 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 28.5 percent of those 65 years.
