Morgan County (West Virginia)
Morgan County is a county located in the state of West Virginia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bath (West Virginia).
Geography
The County is located in the top north-east of West Virginia, adjacent to Maryland, south to Virginia and has an area of 593 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Washington County ( Maryland), Berkeley County, Frederick County ( Virginia), Hampshire County and Allegany County ( Maryland).
History
Morgan County was formed on February 9, 1820 from parts of Berkeley County and Hampshire County. It was named for Daniel Morgan, a member of the House of Representatives for Virginia and a general in the American Revolutionary War and commander of the troops during the Whiskey Rebellion.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Morgan County 14,943 people in 6,145 households and 4,344 families. The population density was 25 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.30 percent White, 0.60 percent African American, 0.17 percent Native American, 0.12 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.23 percent from other races groups; 0.57 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.83 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,145 households out of which 28.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.9 percent were married couples living together, 8.2 percent were single mothers, 29.3 percent were non-families, 24.5 percent of all households and 10.2 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.84 persons.
Based on the county the population was spread from 22.4 percent population under 18 years, 6.8 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 26.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 16.6 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.0 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 35,016, and the median income for a family was $ 40,690. Males have a median income of $ 29,816, women $ 22,307. The per capita income was $ 18,109. 8.0 percent of families and 10.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 11.6 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 8.8 percent of those 65 years.
