Morgan Jones (U. S. politician)

Morgan Jones ( born February 26, 1830 in London, United Kingdom, † July 13, 1894 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1865 and 1867 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Morgan Jones was born four months before the death of George IV, King of Great Britain and Ireland, London. His family emigrated in 1833 to the United States and settled in New York City. He attended public schools and was in 1850 working as a plumber. Between 1859 and 1863 he was a member of the Board of Councilmen and in the years 1860, 1861 and 1863 its president. Then he sat in the years 1864 and 1865 in the Board of Aldermen and last year was its president. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1864 he was in the fourth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Benjamin Wood on March 4, 1865. He retired after the March 3, 1867 out of the Congress. After that he went to 1887 in New York City about his business when he retired. He died there on 13 July 1894 and was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in the then still independent city of Brooklyn.
