Moroccan riad

A Riad (Arabic رياض, Riyad DMG ) is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden or a courtyard. The term comes from the Arabic word for garden, Riyad (from which the name of the city of Riyadh is derived ). The design of these courtyards in the coastal region of Morocco goes to the local adaptation of the construction of Roman Villa back ( house with courtyard). The Riad was popular at the beginning of Islam. They provide family protection and privacy. Many riads in Marrakech and Essaouira are now used as hotels.
