MOROP

The abbreviation MOROP referred to the association of model railroaders and railroad enthusiasts in Europe ( Union Européenne des Modélistes Ferroviaires et des Amis des Chemin de Fer ). The term itself is composed of the word model railway ( Modélistes Ferroviaires, Model Railroad ) and the word Europe (Europe, Europ ). The international federation is led by Swiss law and has its headquarters in Bern ( Switzerland ).

Formation

The model railroad is a development from the beginning of the last century. The growing success of these products also brought a host of new producers with it, all of their own system (based on track length, scale, etc.) onto the market. This initially intended incompatibility was but over time becomes a serious disadvantage for the sales of models and accessories. Therefore, joined in September 1954 in Genoa, the national model railway associations from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland for association of model railroaders and railroad enthusiasts in Europe together with the aim to develop a uniform standard for the model railway range.

The Association currently comprises 21 national associations with more than 30,000 individual members.

Objective

The main objective of MOROP is to develop standards for the model trains. This is referred to as standards of European model trains (NEM). Fixed and updated them by a Technical Commission (TC ) of the MOROP, which also includes leading manufacturers.
