Morten Lauridsen

Morten Lauridsen John ( born February 27, 1943 in Colfax, Washington ) is an American composer.

Life

Lauridsen grew up as the son of Danish immigrants in Portland (Oregon ). Since 1967 he has been a professor of composition at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. In the years 1994 to 2001, he served as Composer-in- Residence of the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Particularly well known is his 1994 composition resulting O Magnum Mysterium for their mystical and mysterious character.

Lauridsen work, which consists almost exclusively of vocal music, has been honored with many awards. In 2007, Lauridsen received at the White House, the National Medal of Arts awarded the highest award, which is awarded by the U.S. government to artists.
