Morten Schuldt-Jensen

Morten Schuldt -Jensen (* 1958 in Skærbæk, Denmark ) is a Danish conductor and professor of choral and orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg.

Training and musical activities

He studied at Det Royal Danish Conservatory of Music and at the University of Copenhagen. His studies in choral and orchestral conducting, singing, vocal pedagogy and musicology, he graduated with a "Master of Arts ". He then attended further courses with Sergiu Celibidache and Eric Ericson.

From 1985 to 1987 he was a member of the Danish National Radio Choir. Schuldt -Jensen in 1990 founded the internationally renowned Tivoli Concert Choir. With his ensemble, he won several international competitions and prizes.

In 1995 and 1997 he represented Denmark as a conductor at the Scandinavian -Baltic Choral Festival. Guest Conductor of the MDR Radio Choir Leipzig he was in 1996, 1999 and 2001, the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin in 2001 and 2002. Moreover, he worked with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, the Helsingborgs Symphony Orchestra and the DR Radiokoret and the Philharmonic Orchestra Copenhagen. There were rehearsals for conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Herbert Blomstedt, Philippe Herreweghe, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Lothar Zagrosek.

From 1999 to 2007 he was the choir director at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Choir. In 2000 he became head of the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra. In 2001 he founded the Gewandhaus Chamber Choir, which spawned an offshoot, 2004, the Immortal Bach Ensemble.

University activity

In 1992 he was an associate professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music Copenhagen from 2001 to 2006 he was a lecturer at the University of Music and Theatre " Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy " in Leipzig. In 2006 he accepted an appointment as professor of choral and orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg.

Awards

He was awarded the 1990 " Erling hols Mindelegat " Prize. He also received awards from the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
