Morten Søndergaard

Morten Søndergaard ( born October 3, 1964 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish writer, translator, literary editor and sound artist.

Life and work

Morten Søndergaard visited from 1989 to 1991, the writers school ( Forfatterskolen ) in Copenhagen and studied comparative literature. Together with Tomas Thøfner he was from 2002 to 2008 editor of the literary magazine Hvedekorn. He is co-founder of Poetry magazine Overste Kirurgiske. 2003 and 2007 he was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize. His books have been translated into Arabic, English, German, French, Italian, Swedish and Serbian.

Søndergaard debuted in 1992 with Sahara i mine handers. In his poetry, he is trying new ways to represent the language. He joins in his exhibitions and installations with sound elements and experiments similar in its musical and dramatic works. Søndergaard has translated several works by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges into Danish.
