Mortimer Durand

Henry Mortimer Durand ( born February 14, 1850 in Sehore, Bhopal, India, † June 8, 1924 in Polden, Somerset, England) was Secretary of the British colony of India and laid in 1893, known as the Durand Line border between Afghanistan and the present-day Pakistan (then British India ) firmly.

Life

Henry Mortimer Durand was the second son of Sir Henry Marion Durand and received his education in England at Blackheath Proprietary School, and Tonbridge School. In 1870, he joined the public service in the Indian government. During the Second Anglo-Afghan War ( 1878-80 ) he worked as political secretary of General Sir Frederick Sleigh Roberts in Kabul. Durand was Secretary of the Government of India in the years 1884-1894 and again in 1893 came to Kabul. Now he led the negotiations on the northern and eastern borders of Afghanistan. After that, he was ambassador to Persia, and from 1900 in Madrid. From 1903-1906 he was Ambassador in Washington.
