Mortlock River at Northam
The Mortlock River is a river in south-west of the Australian state of Western Australia in the Wheatbelt region.
Geography
The river rises in Belmunging on the western slopes of the Cubbine Hills. From there it flows north- west to the connecting road Northam - York. This he follows up by Northam and passes under the Great Eastern Highway. West of the city it flows into the Avon River.

History
The river was named in the 1830s after the surveyor '' Henry Mortlock Ommanney ''. This was the first European who discovered the river on an expedition in 1835.
Ecology
The Mortlock River is very salty and delivers most of the salt load ( about 91 tons. Annually) of the Avon River.
