Morton County (Kansas)

Morton County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Elkhart. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme southwestern corner of Kansas, on the west by Colorado, on the south by Oklahoma and has an area of ​​1891 square kilometers without significant water surface. It borders in Kansas clockwise to the following counties: Stanton County and Stevens County.

History

Morton County was formed on 20 February 1886. It was named after Oliver P. Morton, an American politician and governor of Indiana during the American Civil War.
