The Morschowez Island (Russian Остров Моржовец, Ostrow Morschowez ) is a Russian island in the White Sea. It belongs administratively to the Arkhangelsk Oblast.

Geography

The Morschowez Island is located in the northeast area of the White Sea, about 25 km off the north coast of the East European Plain in Mesenbusen. It lies only a few kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The roughly oval-shaped island is 18 km long and has an area of ​​approximately 110 km ². The landscape of the island is characterized by relatively flat, interspersed with many small lakes and ponds tundra. In the southwest of Morschowez Island is a settlement of the same name.
