Moscovian (Carboniferous)

The Moscovian (English: Moscovian ) is in the earth's second chronostratigraphic stage of Pennsylvaniums ( Carboniferous). In absolute terms, expressed ( geochronological ) represents the stage the period of about 315.2 million years ago to about 307 million years. The Moscovian following the Bashkirian and is detached from the Kasimovian.

Naming and history

The Moscovian is named after Moscow, capital of Russia. The stage and the name were proposed by Sergei Nikitin 1890.

Definition and GSSP

The base of Moskoviums defined by the Erstauftrete the conodont species Declinognathodus donetzianus and / or conodont species Idiognathoides postsulcatus and fusulinids Type Aljutovella aljutovica. The upper limit is near the base of the Obsoletes obsoletes - Protriticites pseudomontiparus - fusulinids zone, or the first appearance of the ammonite genus Parashumardites. A reference profile ( GSSP = Global Stratotype Section and Point) for the base of Moskoviums has not yet been determined.

Subdivision

The Moscovian is divided into five conodont biozones:

  • Neognathodus roundyi / Streptognathodus cancellosus zone
  • Neognathodus medexultimus / Streptognathodus concinnus zone
  • Streptognathodus dissectus zone
  • Neognathodus uralicus zone
  • Declinognathodus donetzianus zone
