Mose Allison

John Mose Allison, Jr. ( born November 11, 1927 Tippoo (Mississippi) in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi) is an American jazz pianist and singer.

He began during his school days to play the piano and played the trumpet while he was in high school. Allison went to the University of Mississippi and Louisiana State University, where he made his degree in English Literature. After serving in the U.S. Army, he moved to New York City, where his jazz career began. During the 1950s he worked with Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims. Then he focused on the work in his trio and toured occasionally in Europe.

His music has influenced many blues and rock artists, including The Rolling Stones, John Mayall, JJ Cale and The Who, who played his song " Young Man Blues " on several tours. Blue Cheer took a version of the song Parchman Farm on for her debut album. The Yardbirds and The Misunderstood who covered both his song I'm Not Talking. His song Look Here was the Clash on their album Sandinista! gecovert. Van Morrison released an album with his plays under the name of "Tell Me Something: The Songs of Mose Allison ," and Elvis Costello recorded the song Everybody's Cryin 'Mercy on for his album " Kojak Variety". In addition, the Pixies dedicated to him a song called " Allison ".

He is the father of country singer Amy Allison.

In 2006, he was inducted into the Long Iceland Music Hall of Fame.
