Moses Ali

Moses Ali ( born April 5, 1939 in Meliaderi, Adjumani District ) is a Ugandan politician. He is currently Minister for Disaster Prevention and refugees, as well as second deputy prime minister under the government of Yoweri Museveni.

After graduating from the Old Kampala Senior Secondary School Ali began a military training. In 1969 he was appointed Major and became commander of the Ugandan parachutist school. From 1972 he studied at the Staff College in Camberley in Great Britain Military Science.

Ali was appointed in 1973 under the government of Idi Amin's Minister for the Prozinzverwaltung and 1974 promoted to Brigadier General. 1981, during the reign of Milton Obote, was Ali leader of the Uganda National Rescue Front, which was formed in the West Nile Province and was directed against Obote.

Under Museveni Ali was from July 1986 Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and then Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport. In April 1990 he was arrested for treason because he is said to have illegally possessed weapons and ammunition and trained fighters abroad. He stayed a total of 26 months in custody until he was acquitted in 1992.
