Moses Khumalo

Moses Khumalo ( born January 30, 1979 in Meadowlands, Soweto, † 4 September 2006 in Honeydew, Johannesburg ) was a South African jazz saxophonist.

Life and work

Moses Khumalo visited the Thobeka Primary School, from 1993, the Pace Community College and studied from 1994 to 1998 at Manu Technical College piano and saxophone. He completed his studies with a degree in music theory, music history, as well as saxophone and piano playing. His professional career as a musician, he began in 1995 on the Grahamstown Festival as a member of the Soweto Youth Jazz Band, which was led by Mokale Koapeng and then concerts in London and West Africa. After his return, he played three years in the band of pianist Moses Molelekwa. In addition, he stepped on, inter alia, with Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, Themba Mkhize and Paul Hanmer. The early 2000s, he played with his band project Moses Khumalo and Friends in the clubs of Johannesburg. On the label Sheer Sound released his debut album Mntungwa, which was awarded a South African Music Award for Best Newcomer album was released in 2002. In 2005 he released his second album Ibuyile. Khumalo was early September 2006 found hanged at his home in Johannesburg found just before he had another recording session with the Young Lions.
