Moses Mosop

Moses Cheruiyot Mosop ( born July 17, 1985 in Kamasia at Kapsowar, Marakwet District ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner.

He had his first international success in the junior race of the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, where he was in Dublin Tenth and 2003 in Avenches seventh 2002.

In 2004 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens, where he finished seventh in the 10,000 -meter run, and was second in the Zevenheuvelenloop over 15 km.

At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005, he won bronze in the 10,000 m, 2006, he was national champion over the same distance, and at the Cross Country World Cup 2007 in Mombasa, he won silver.

In 2007 and 2008 he won the Giro al Sas. In 2009 he finished eleventh at the Cross Country Championships in Amman and won the Giro Media Blenio. In 2010, he triumphed at the Stramilano, was tenth at the World Half Marathon Championships in Nanning and sixth at Zevenheuvelenloop.

In 2011 he started for a second place at the Paris Half Marathon first in a race over the 42,195 -km distance. At the Boston Marathon, he fought a duel with Geoffrey Kiprono Mutai. Supported by a strong tailwind both remained with 2:03:02 h ( Mutai ) and 2:03:06 h ( Mosop ) by almost three minutes under the old course record and achieved the fastest ever way past times; however, since the Boston course is not bestenlistenfänig because of their exceeding gap, they were not recognized as a world record.

In early June, however, he succeeded at the Prefontaine Classic, to sign the world record lists. About the rarely discharged track distance of 30,000 m, he broke the 30 year old record of Toshihiko Seko. Even with the 25,000 -meter meantime, he remained well below Sekos record time. In the fall followed by a victory in the Chicago Marathon.

In 2012, he was sixth at the Paris Half Marathon. In the Rotterdam Marathon although he was with 2:05:03 h more than half a minute faster than in Chicago, but was defeated by the Ethiopians Yemane Tsegay and Getu Feleke. Nevertheless, he was nominated by the Kenyan Association next London Marathon winner Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich and the world champion Abel Kirui for 2012 Olympic Games.
