In the 1990s Mosgortrans came in the wake of economic decline after the collapse of the Soviet Union suffered a serious financial crisis which made it impossible to maintain the quality of passenger services to a satisfactory standard. During this time, only a few new vehicles were purchased, which led to a significant obsolescence of the fleet and increased susceptibility of the above-ground public transport in Moscow. It was not until the late 90 's financial problems could be partially solved. So until then missed by many Dodger revenue through the early 2000s, carried out installation of turnstiles at the entrance doors of buses, trolleybuses and trams could be backed up again, which made a partial renewal of the vehicle fleet possible. However Mosgortrans came in connection with the installation of turnstiles several times in public criticism, as this just leads to high stress lines in a significant delay of the passenger change.

Current data

According to the state by the end of 2006 Mosgortrans is the largest urban public transport company of Russia and annually transports approximately 4.2 billion passengers, representing around 47 percent of total municipal revenues. In addition, multi-ride tickets for 5, 10, 20 or 60 trips. A special feature here is that the purchase of a ticket from the driver is possible, but with 28 rubles per single trip much more expensive to book proposes as the purchase in one of the special kiosks, although not there at every stop. This pricing policy is established by the Moscow City Government contrary to considerable criticism, so that the ticket sales by bus or tram driver should remain an exception because he was delaying the exchange of passengers at bus stops.

Since the establishment of new Trolleybusstrecken is much more complex because of the necessary overhead line installation as introduction of new bus routes, the future development of the Moscow trolley bus network, in particular with regard to the current overload of the Moscow streets shall be considered as uncertain. For some routes, there are already decommissioning plans.

Trolley buses for Moscow are manufactured by the Trolsa plants in the Volga city of Engels. Currently, a fairly wide range of different models in use that developed by 1972 and still widely used in the ex -Soviet Trolleybusbetrieben Model SIU -9 extends to recently developed low-floor types in Mosgortrans.

Both car and trolleybus routes of Mosgortrans are numbered from one to two digits, a number of bus routes also three digits.
