Moshe Atzmon

Moshe Atzmon (Hebrew משה עצמון; born July 30, 1931 Budapest, Moses actually Grószberger ) is an Israeli conductor.

Moshe Atzmon began his musical studies in Budapest. When he was 13 years old, his parents emigrated to Israel. In Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, he studied cello and horn. He also completed his conducting training. He continued his studies in London.

In 1963, he won his first award in a competition as a conductor. Later he was a guest conductor with the big philharmonic orchestras in Berlin, Munich and Vienna. From 1971 to 1976 he was in succeeding Hans Schmidt- Isserstedt, chief conductor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra.

1967-1971 he was chief conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonieorchester Basel 1972-1986. From 1978 to 1983 he was also head of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Moshe Atzmon, however, is known not only as a conductor of symphonic music, but also as an opera conductor. From 1991 to 1994 he was music director of the Dortmund Philharmonic and where he also works for the opera.
