Mossel Bay ( Afrikaans: Mossel Bay ) is a municipality in the district of Eden, Western Cape Province in South Africa. In 2001, the population was 71,488 in a total area of 2011 km ². The administrative center is Mossel Bay.

The community name means "Shell Bay ". The name was given to the bay in 1601 by the Dutch navigator Paulo van Caerden because of the large mussel populations.
