Motobu Chōki

Motobu Chōki (Japanese本部 朝 基, † 1944 * 1870 in the village Akahira near Shuri on Okinawa ), together with his contemporaries Funakoshi Gichin and other masters of the founder of modern karate.

Origin

His father, Motobu Choshin ( Motobu Aji Chosin ) was a descendant of Sho Koshin ( 1655-1687 ), also known as Prince Motobu Chohei, the sixth son of the Okinawan King Sho shitsu ( 1629-1668 ).

As the last of three sons, was given no training in Motobu Chōki death style ( the forerunner of the Okinawan karate) of the family. Nonetheless, Motobu very interested in this martial art and trained at a young age on their own. It was said to have been after him very nimble, giving him the nickname probably saru, monkey has introduced. Motobu developed his own techniques which he austestete on the road. This showed that his techniques work in practice. He has developed his own 12 - Kumité processes.
