Motor City Mechanics

The Motor City Mechanics were an American ice hockey team from Redford, Michigan. The team played from 2004 to 2006 in the United Hockey League.

History

The team was founded in 2004 as a franchise of the United Hockey League. In their inaugural season, they benefited from the lockout in the National Hockey League during the 2004/ 05 season. With Chris Chelios, Derian Hatcher, Bryan Smolinski and Sean Avery they could commit the same four NHL players. Originally also the Canadian Kris Draper should play for the Motor City Mechanics, but received because of various VISA regulations have a work permit.

In the two seasons of existence, the Motor City Mechanics each reached the third place in the Central Division, however, qualified only in the 2005/06 season for the play- offs at the Colonial Cup, where they in the first round to the eventual champions Kalamazoo Wings in the best- of-seven series documents with a sweep. Following this season, the franchise was dissolved.
