Mótsognir

Modsognir, also Motsognir ( Old Norse Modsognir or Mótsognir ), is the first dwarf in Norse mythology and was created by the gods.

Controversial is the meaning of the name, most likely you could with, the weary him, the force -free ' play (from Old Norse modr and suga, compare Swedish dialect modsugen, apathetic ').

The Völuspá (v. 10 f ) describes the Dvergatal Modsognir not only the first but also as the most powerful of the Dwarves:

Sources whether Modsognir is to be understood as a king or leader of the dwarves do not exist.

The Gylfaginning (verse 14) supplemented and clarified further. After the emergence of the dwarves was initially closely associated with the creation of the world. Dwarfs were initially like maggots in Ymir's flesh and received only by the gods human mind and human form. However, their life they led as before in the earth and in the rock.
