Motta di Livenza

Motta di Livenza is a municipality ( comune ) with 10,774 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Treviso in the Veneto region of Italy. It is located about 60 km northeast of Venice.

History

The city has Roman roots. Its first inhabitants were the Paleoveneti. The river Livezia was one reason why a city was built here. In the 10th century a castle was built to defend the city and its inhabitants.

Attractions

The historic center has been renovated in recent times, and the streets and squares offer again an old picture. The buildings are built in mitterlalterlichem to renaissanten style.

The San Nicola Cathedral was built in the 14th century.

Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli

The Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli was built in the 16th century at a place where, according to tradition, a poor peasant on March 9, 1510 to have appeared to the Virgin Mary.
