Mottarone

The 1,491 -meter-high Mottarone is a mountain that lies between Omegna on Lake Orta and Stresa on Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont. The mountain is developed since 1970 by a cable car from Stresa ( " Stresa - Alpino - Mottarone funivia " ) and two lakes through steep mountain roads. From the mountain station of the aerial tramway to 1385 meters you reach the top in about 20 minutes. From 1911 to 1963 reversed a narrow-gauge train from Stresa to the summit of Mount Mottarone.

As the highest point of the region, it offers a wide panoramic view of the surrounding seven northern Italian and Swiss Alps, lakes and mountain ranges, including the Monte Rosa.

The mountain is touristy widely used, among other things, for skiing, hiking, mountain biking and paragliding. At the top are due to the location numerous antenna systems. Near the middle station of the cable car can be a botanical garden with alpine plants and good views over Lake Maggiore visit ( " Giardino Botanico Alpinia "). At the toll road is a museum of umbrellas and parasols.
